Davis Islands

*Yes, it is plural. It’s a collection of islands connected by bridges.*

This is a collection of islands just south of Bayshore and west of Harbour Island, connected by small bridges. Tampa General Hospital is the main structure at the north end of the island, and Peter O. Knight Airport anchors the other end.

You may see dolphins, cruise ships, and University of Tampa crew teams training in the channel.

***Procedures for Run Tampa Group Runs explained on the Schedule page, here.***

Location: We meet at Marjorie Park Yacht Basin, 115 Columbia Drive.

Route: We run south to the yacht club and back, about 6 miles, which means passing the Run Tampa water stop at miles 2 and 4; however, anyone seeking a longer run can add more miles in various ways. For example, circling the perimeter of the islands will give you about 9 miles. To do that, from the water stop, take Severne and continue around the perimeter of the islands by continually taking left turns until you return to Davis Blvd. Cross that and go one block to return to Columbia drive.

Parking: Plenty of free parking at Marjorie Park Marina, restroom, too, but it’s not always open.

Water: Several water fountains along the way. For Run Tampa group runs, Deb puts a cooler at the 2 mile point, intersection of Martinique and Severn. You’ll pass it twice if you run to the tip beyond the airport and back. If planning to do more than the run from the start to the Yacht Club and back (six miles), plan to carry water.

Restrooms: At the far end of the Marjorie Park Yacht Basin parking lot (not always open), at the ball park next door, and at Peter O. Knight Airport.

Breakfast: D.I. Coffee, 214 E. Davis Blvd, a short walk from our starting point. They have light breakfast items, including a breakfast sandwich, avocado toast, bagels, and Cuban toast.
