If you are new to running, I strongly encourage you to join Run Tampa’s group runs, even if you’re mostly walking. It’s all good. You will find the support and new friends will greatly impact your success.
We were all beginners at one point, and we want to do everything we can to help you in those early weeks and months.
I hold two 12-week coaching sessions per year, fall and winter. Tuesday nights are for experienced runners and Thursday nights are for beginners. A beginner is anyone not yet able to run 3 miles, non-stop, but that would include even someone not running a whole minute or even a half a minute.
Sometimes this beginner class is even appropriate for very experienced runners if they have been away from running for a few months because they need it until they get their endurance back. Details and registration here.
If you have never run even a quarter mile or even a whole minute, non-stop, I encourage you to come out. I am most happy to get people started. If you can run 15 steps, then I want you. We’ll start there, with a couple minutes walking and 15 steps, running. You’ll be fine, and you’ll appreciate being in a class for just beginners. Much of this class is spent improving your overall fitness to prevent injuries.
There are multiple levels within this class.
Online Beginner Coaching
If you can’t join the ‘in person’ group, try my Become a Runner online coaching program. The fee for that is $55 for one year, and it takes you from zero running all the way to a half marathon in a year’s time, but it is extremely gradual, much more gradual than the typical Couch to 5k Program. I encourage you to try the free trial. ***All beginners in my ‘in person’ coaching also get entry into the online program, which works out well, because that way they have schedules to follow between the 12-week sessions.
In the Meantime
In the meantime, during the summer, you can prepare by listening to my two podcasts. They’ve helped runners all over the world. They’ve been downloaded over 700,000 times in 185 countries.
Beginner Runner Village Podcast for true beginners, people not yet stringing whole miles together.
I just want to encourage all you beginning runners. I started running using this program and have completed several 5k runs. In fact, l have won a medal in two of them, third in my age group both times. Great program, great coach! Thank you Debbie! – Ginnie Cox
Mojo for Running Podcasts for runners at all other levels.
Both are available through the Podcast app that comes pre-installed on iPhones, on the Stitcher Radio app, and Google Play for Music (search Debbie Voiles) for Android devices. The podcasts are packed with information. Each one features a different topic, the kind of things I share with my private coaching clients.
