Run Tampa is for everybody, for even people at the very beginning of their running journey. Everybody started sometime. Everyone ran their first steps. The Run Tampa Leadership Team is especially committed to supporting new runners.
At the beginning of each group run, everyone makes a circle, and we introduce ourselves and say how far we’re going. We ask first-timers to say so, and they always get applause and encouragement. This is helpful, too, because it means we can make sure new attendees get their questions answered, know the route, and have someone to hang with.
We all remember those critical first runs, and we want to make sure you stick with it. We want to supply the support and encouragement you need. No one is too slow.
If you are interested in coaching but not comfortable joining one of our Run Tampa track groups, you may want to join my online coaching program. It doesn’t replace ‘in-person coaching, but might help you get through your first few months until you gain the confidence to join one of the local Run Tampa Coaching groups.
My online coaching program is called Mojo for Running Coaching. I’ll explain. I started Run Tampa back in 2009, and at about the same time I wrote the book After Your First 5k, started the Mojo for Running Podcast and the Mojo for Running website. People from all over the world listen to that podcast (126 countries) and participate in my associated online coaching programs:
- Walk to Run (for people working up to their first running mile),
- First 5k (for people who can run but are not yet able to run a 5k, non-stop),
- First 10k, and
- First Half Marathon
I hope you’ll check out all the above resources and start coming out to the Run Tampa group runs as soon as possible.
Often, new runners will say, “I’m not fast enough to run with a group”
or “I’m still mostly walking; I’ll come to a group run with I’m running.”
When we hear that we do everything we can to encourage that person to come out now, because you will feel welcome and more motivated than ever. Please come! You do not have to be a club member. Our group runs are open to anyone.
