The Downtown Riverwalk is a great place to get in a medium distance run in an urban setting along the bank of the Hillsborough River. You may well see dolphins on this course, or manatees, and you’ll look across at the spires of the University of Tampa.
Run Tampa runs the Riverwalk every Monday evening. The runs start at 7 p.m. during the hot months and 6:30 the rest of the year. Check the group run calendar to find out the starting time. That run leaves from the courtyard in Hyde Park Village. We call it the Goody Goody Riverwalk Run because we go to the Goody Goody for dinner afterwards. This is a 4 to 6 mile run, depending on where you turn around.
Run Tampa occasionally runs the Riverwalk on Saturday. This only occurs in months with five Saturdays. The 5th Saturday run starts behind the Tampa History Center at 801 Old Water Street. That’s east of Cotanchobee Park. Then, we run west, along the waterfront, behind the Sail Pavilion and the Tampa Convention Center. You’ll want to take a couple trips up and down the huge bank of stairs at the Convention Center before continuing as the river turns north. We continue that route until we get to where the Riverwalk ends behind Ulele Restaurant. It’s spectacularly beautiful. Out and back is 4.4 miles.
