You can become a runner! People tell me all the time that they'd like to run but they "can't." I love working with those people. I have never had anyone join my class who wasn't quickly convinced that they, in fact, could become a runner.
Testimonial HERE.
And more and more research is showing that running is, indeed, the fountain of youth (read this and watch this). Whether your goal is to get fit, lose weight, or stop aging, running is the answer.
"Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're probably right."
Anyone can do it. The secret is to start at your current fitness level. Sounds obvious, but many beginning running programs start at some arbitrary point, a huge mistake. Some people attending such a class will have no current fitness. Or maybe they are somewhat fit but just struggle with running. Maybe that's you; if so, you do not want to go to a class and hear, "Let's go, we're going to run just a quarter mile."
You think, "JUST" a quarter mile. For someone who is not a runner, that's usually far too much. That's a crazy amount of running for someone who is not currently running.
In my class you start where you are, wherever that is, and move forward, gradually, but steadily. If it takes you six months to work up to a 5k, so what?
Really. It's not a race. The key is to get started. Did you know that walking burns just as many calories as running? Yep! Both burn about 100 calories per mile.
Did you know most people start running to burn calories? That's right.
The first step is to believe you can run. I will never push you to do more than you’re comfortable doing. You choose your comfort level. You move up to the next level when you are ready.
First week workout: Warmup with one mile of walking. Then, dynamic stretching. Next alternate a tenth of a mile walking with 10 steps of running for a distance of one mile. Next, cool down with one mile of walking. That's it.
In Week 2, the running portion bumps up to 15 steps. Sound doable? It is. Sound too easy? Well, depending on your beginning fitness level, it may be far too easy. You can be sure that I'll set you up on the right progression to achieve your goal. It may be that you should be in the Beginning Runner group. There is a spot for everyone and anyone.
The key is to get started. Trust me! You will look forward to this class. The camaraderie is great! You will get fit, make friends, and have fun! If a 5k is your goal, most people will be ready in about 3 months.
