We haven't had the usual spring like weather that we normally begin the year with - it's actually been more like winter, which most of us don't think we normally have here - but the racing season is well under way. Disney and Miami have already passed, this weekend we have the Sarasota Grouper Marathon and Half and the St. Pete Classic, and in two weeks we have the big daddy of Tampa races, the Publix Gasparilla Race Weekend.
One thing that excites me is that we seem to get more off road races on the calendar every year.
And the schedule seems to accelerate from there. As for me, I've got a race every weekend for weeks and weeks. Race directors are contacting me with more and more races; I just wish I could do them all. Keep checking the race calendar because races are continually added, and some race directors are just now confirming their dates for the fall.
You also don't want to forget the two urban adventure races on the horizon, the Great Urban Race is NEXT weekend, February 21st, and the Urban Dare is on March 7th. I can't stress enough how much fun these races are. If you like to play games and you like to run, then you should do this race. And don't think you have to run fast. This race is for fun, and remember, in an adventure race, there is no set race course. You decide when to go to which destination, and you can't go there until you solve the clue, until then, you don't even know where to go. Gotta love it.
So, whatever you're doing for the next few weekends, one thing for sure, you gotta love this time of year in Tampa. We can run and race every weekend in beautiful weather.
