There are no fewer than four races this coming Saturday morning and nary a race on Sunday, at least not any that are in the same vicinity. If you click on 'Calendar' above, you will discover races in Tarpon Springs, Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg. How does that happen? There are no races Friday night, either.
A night race at this time of year seems like a great idea with such beautiful light displays all over town. Could be a huge hit. I'd love to see a race along Bayshore or through downtown Tampa or through a residential area. People would go out of their way to decorate if they knew a race would be passing by. The Boley Run in St. Pete is at night, winding along the waterfront, leaving from the Pier. What a good idea.
I was at Richard's Run for Life, and that was a huge success. I think we should have more Friday night races throughout the year. Just seems like people are in a great party mood on Friday night. And why aren't more races held Sundays? I have participated in quite a few, and they are always well attended. Tampa Races always holds races on Sundays, and I think that is a great idea.
This Saturday, none of these simultaneous races will have the number of participants that they could have had were they not all simultaneous.
I will be running the Say No to Drugs race and taking pictures there, but I am sad that I can't be at two - make that several - places at once.
We need to get race directors together to improve race scheduling for the benefit of race sponsors, race directors benefactors, and the whole local running community.
I am happy to note only one race the next weekend, the MADD Dash Resolution Run at Al Lopez Park. I'll be there, taking pictures and manning the resolution table.
I hope race directors and runners will COMMENT on this post.
